No, I don't believe there is a way.

This is a bug in the 3.2 Palm OS.
I reported the bug when I found in the the beta 3.3 ROM image and 
received a reply that they agreed it was a bug and that it is fixed.
I tested the latest 3.3beta ROM and it is in fact fixed.
