I've used void pointers with C++ Builder to convert Palm to PC data types.
convert Palm float in a db record to pc float:
void *ptr;
double *tempD;
long *tempL;
char tempBuf[8];
// Read from DB into tempBuf
ptr = tempBuf;
tempL = (long *)ptr;
tempD = (double *) tempL;
