Tay Shu Pin,
Try something that provides real value to the end-user rather than something
that is cool or hard to do.
I mean look at hotmail - I don't think it was very hard to implement.
How about a diabetes management program? Something that allows you to
actively manager diabetes mellitus (IDDM) and maybe predicts your insulin
dosage based on your food intake. I would think that would be very handy and
useful.
How much functionality you want to provide would decide how complex it would
be.
A word of caution about managing the time. When you are sizing your effort,
remember to keep some significant time for unforeseen problems and gotcha's.
And remember to spend some effort to collect and assimilate user input from
the target population in your design, unless the project is user driven
which is not in your case.

Subject: Advice needed over development of customised palm solutions :
how hard?
greets.
I'm a student planning his final year project and I'm stuck with some
questions
regarding developing for the Palm. I'll be grateful if somebody could kindly
give a quick look over my small list of questions and offer some advice and
answers.
Thanks in advance

Situation:
I have been given a chance to do a funded project with the theme being palm.
At first we were given a idea to work on -- road directory , but it wasn't
too feasible
as Singapore was just too small. So the 3 of us were given instructions
to go dream up a project(s). Our impressions of palm solutions being
small and therfore easy got us thinking about doing slightly harder programs
such as form designers + connectivity packages.
After attending a recent local Palm summit, we gave a second thought about
customised solutions , since it would mean that we could
graduate with working experience in customised palm solutions.
But the thought of it being too easy is holding us from committing ourselves
to it.
Questions:
We are afraid that
1) It can be easily done up in 3 months ( our project duration ) ; Our
supervisor wouldn't be too happy and
neither would us if it's not too much a challange. ( esp true when this
project is funded )
2) We aren't sure if how many people would be needed for a palm solution,
or example ( a user base of 15-20 and a backend database considering it
is a full package with all the works
- remote connectivity and others )
