Well, I'm not sure why it wouldn't work with you leaving it unhandled.
Personally, I've never had much luck trying to get the OS to handle changing
labels for me..  I did try to get it to do my dirty work for me once, but I
had previously done it with CtlSetLabel, and once I had trouble getting it
to handle it for me, I did it the way it worked for me earlier...  Perhaps I
am too impatient, but I found something that worked for me, and went with
it..
