We recently launched a Palm VII query application for the medical database on our website: http://www.biomednet.com/display/info/palmvii.html One suggestion from a user was that it would be nice if, as a complement to this, they could download items from our database to their desktop computer in DOC format, and then upload them to a non-wireless capable Palm for offline browsing. It seems that this will be very easy for us to do: We just add an extra output option, in addition to the current PlainText vs HTML choice, and deliver the DOC format with the help of makedoc7.cpp The question is: Is there, or might there in the future be any way to partially automate this process? Specifically, could the HotSync application be configured by the user as a helper application for their browser, to handle files of with a MIME type of something like: Content type: x-application/palm-hotsync We have worked with a couple of software companies to add this type of 'Direct Import' facility to their bibliographic packages and it has been a huge success. I wonder if the same thing could be done for uploads to Palm devices. It would obviously greatly simplify the process of uploading new applications, too. Anyone have any thoughts on this. I searched the archives but couldn't find any mention of this topic...
