To add to what he said:

Creator IDs are precisely four letters long.  They consist entirely of
printable ASCII characters (! to ~).  Palm has reserved all creator IDs
consisting entirely of lower-case letters.

For example, '\0\0me' is not a valid Creator ID, since it has two
non-printable characters (two ASCII nulls).

On the subject of creator IDs, what are good creator IDs for programs I
have no plans to distribute?  For example, I have a small program which
nukes all the preferences of my Ear Trainer program, which I use to insure
that my program has reasonable defaults.  Since I only use it for testing 
my program, and since it only exists on my palm, I see no need to have it 
take up a creator ID slot.  I wish there were reserved "private" creator
IDs for programs like this.
