tcp/ip over serial connection

hi pals,
    
     i have read that tcp/ip 
standard on palm  is available only via a serial or modem connection.so if
i want to use the serial connection what i will have to do
 
i dont have a modem and i want tcp/ip connectivity between my palm
and my desktop using serial connection what should i do?
