Hello all,
I've been asked by some people whether it's possible to merge CodeWarrior
Pro 5 and CodeWarrior for Palm Computing platform Release 6. The answer is
yes. In light of that, I thought I'd post these instructions on how to do
so. These are preliminary instructions that we hope to put up in an FAQ
soon. Bear in mind that this is for CW for Palm R6 only, not CW for Palm R5.
Merges of CW for Palm R5 and CW Pro 5 are not supported, or recommended.
To merge CW Pro 5 and CW for Palm R6 on Windows is pretty straightforward:
- Install CW Pro 5 first. You must install the original CW Pro 5 from the
CD.
- Install CW for Palm R6, but set the target directory to the same location
as CW Pro 5(the default is c:\Program Files\Metrowerks\CodeWarrior)
- The installer will install the components into the proper locations. CW
for Palm R6 will also update the compiler, MSL and IDE.
- You may also install the CW Pro 5.2 patch from the Metrowerks website;
this patch includes components newer than those included in CW for Palm R6.
- You should then rebuild the Palm OS Support precompiled headers and
libraries:
- Palm OS 3.1 Support/Incs/Precompiled/PalmOSHeaders.mcp (rebuild all
targets)
- Palm VII Support/Incs/Precompiled/PalmOSHeaders.mcp
Merging CW Pro 5 and CW for Palm R6 on the Mac requires somewhat more work:
- Install CW Pro 5 first. You must install the original CW Pro 5 from the
CD.
- Copy the following folders from the CW for Palm R6 CD into your
CodeWarrior Pro 5 folder (the same level as the Metrowerks CodeWarrior
folder):
- Palm OS Constructor
- PQA Builder
- Copy the following folders and components from the CW for Palm R6 CD into
your CodeWarrior Pro 5:Metrowerks CodeWarrior folder
- Palm OS 3.1 Support
- Palm VII Support
- Symbol SDK Support (if needed)
- (Project Stationery):Palm OS 3.1 (English) into (Project Stationery):
- (Project Stationery):Palm OS 3.1 (Japan) into (Project Stationery):
- (Project Stationery):Palm VII into (Project Stationery):
- CodeWarrior Plugins:Debugger:PalmPlugin into CodeWarrior
Plugins:Debugger:
- CodeWarrior Plugins:Linker:PalmRez Post Linker into CodeWarrior
Plugins:Linker:
- CodeWarrior Plugins:Preference Panel:Palm Connection into CodeWarrior
Plugins:Preference Panel
- CodeWarrior Plugins:Preference Panel:PalmRez Panel into CodeWarrior
Plugins:Preference Panel
- At this point, you may want to download and install the CW Pro 5.2 patch
and install it
- You should then rebuild the Palm OS Support precompiled headers:
- Palm OS 3.1 Support/Incs/Precompiled/PalmOSHeaders.mcp (rebuild all
targets)
- Palm OS 3.1 Support/Incs/Precompiled/PalmSimHeaders.mcp (rebuild all
targets)
- Palm VII Support/Incs/Precompiled/PalmOSHeaders.mcp
- Palm VII Support/Incs/Precompiled/PalmSimHeaders.mcp
That should work. Let me know if I've missed something here.
