I've had the opposite experience: turning on PC-Relative
Strings makes it work. The problem, as far as I could tell, was that
string literals were being used while processing launch codes where
globals weren't accessible. Turning on PC-Relative Strings allowed me
to use string literals whenever I wanted. If I had more string
literals, I'd turn off PC-Relative Strings and turn it on with a
pragma for code that doesn't have access to globals. Most Palm
applications probably use resources rather than string literals for
the most part, so I don't think it matters where they're stored. The
default for PC-Relative Strings should probably be on.
