Hi Samir,
Yes you do need a modem, in this case it is called a GSM modem. But the
Ericsson SH888 and I think the Nokia 8810 have this modem built-in into the
phone. For other phones like the Ericsson GF7xx series and the cheaper
Nokias, you have to get a special attachment that implements this GSM modem.
Yup, just connect to your ISP using a PPP connection. Your script should be
according to your ISP preferences. My ISP uses Unix boxes so I chose the
"Unix" built-in script.
OS3.3 contains what was called the "irCOMM" libraries. Basically: you need
some software to make your Palm redirect all network calls to the IR port.
In previous OS you had to download and install this IrCOMM libraries
yourself and they were not well integrated in the network panel. Now OS3.3
includes them and it is very easy to use, just go into the Connection panel
in the preferences, select a new connection, set the type "IrCOMM to
Modem", edit your username and password in the network panel, and you are
set to connect to the internet via your mobile phone!
I tell you, it didnt take me longer than a minute to be up and connected,
extremely cool.
