Device in Cradle or not?

Hello,

I sent this question while the list was having
problems, and it never appeared.  I apologize
if some of you receive a copy of this message.

Is there a straightforward way to determine
(within a program) whether the device is in
the cradle or not?

A simple API call would be nice.  I've checked
the documentation, but I can't find anything.
Probably I'm missing something obvious....
