iMessenger - Why No Hyperlinking?

Im just curious,

Is there a technical reason on why the iMessenger application doesn't
support hyperlinks (even if it just performs a GotoURL)?  I think this
would be a great feature and would like to know if (or when) there might be
an update to any of the PalmVII built-in apps?
