We are looking for a fine Palm programmer who has anywhere from one month
to one life to give to a Palm programming project for a new start-up in
the Boston area. We know exactly what we want (to start with, in any
case), and it basically requires expertise in basic Palm UI stuff and also
in basic Palm TCP/IP stuff (there is a UDP side as well, but we'd start
with TCP). Two Palm programmers trust have told me independently that what
we've defined as version 1.0 shouldn't be more than a month of
programming. This very much reflects on the project -- we have
defined something small and sweet that it seems people really
would use, and we feel confident that it is worth getting this version 1.0
out there asap but with very solid code, as a base from which to do a set
of upgrades.

(In case you are wondering, these two programmers I talked to simply
aren't free anytime in the next few months, which is why I am asking
here).

Please understand a few things:

        a) your involvement could be just getting us to version 1.0 with
code that we then continue to maintain ourselves, but we would be very
happy to consider a longer-term relationship, up to having you join
our team (I think in this case we would want the person
to have some pretty deep Unix server skills as well). It rather depends on
how good you are and how things progress. We are certain that this
software will make a nice splash and have quite a long life;

        b) although it is almost certain that the final software will be
open-sourced, we need to want it under wraps while it is being developed
(for about the next 3 months or so).

        c) we only need to use the classic interface to IP on the Palm,
not the new Palm VII web clipping interface. Although we would like
to have a version that uses that also (either "eventually" or very
soon)...

        d) TCP/IP experience in general and for the Palm is very
important. It won't be enough to just wing it. We have some pretty good
IP expertise here, so if you are merely "very competent" with IP, but want
to learn more, this might work out.

We are a team of 15-20 engineers who are putting together a very unusual
set of Internet-based services. There is a Palm/wireless-IP side to what
we are doing, which seems to be truly novel. We are arrogant enough to
think that we might something which pushes people to get wireless IP on
their Palm. If you are looking for a solid startup, this could be a chance
for you as well as for us.

But we need a good developer for at least a month or so to get started. It
does not seem to be a very hard project, but we need someone who can
commit to it.

Thank you for reading this far.
