There are three common methods to do forums like this: email, news, and web
pages. Each have significant benefits and drawbacks. We've been doing
lists for quite a while, and they work pretty well, but I think we're at
about the maximum in terms of volume.
We're very actively investigating switching from our current list server
software to another package, for better reliability, responsiveness and
more features. The current front-runner for us is Lyris, which supports
all three (email, news, web) methods of accessing the same content.
If anyone has comments about Lyris, good or bad, or alternative
suggestions, please let us know asap! We might well do the switch in
January.
