Sorry if this is a bit off topic, but I was trying to connect my Palm 3 to
an external modem. However, I could not dial out.

I have successfully connected the palm to a PC running a terminal emulator,
and a serialecho program on the palm, so I know that serial port i/o from
palm to pc is working.

What I want to know is do I have to change the cable wiring (pin
assignments)
for the serial port cable in order for this to work ?
Later I intend to connect the palm to a smart card reader, so I wanted to
test with a modem first.

The person who has written the scez library for the palm suggested the
following pin assignments for a Palm 2 Smartcard i/f.

  Palm side Reader side For readers
    9pin, male   9pin, male

      2  (RD) <-> 3  (RD)     All
      3  (TD) <-> 2  (TD)     All
      5  (SG) <-> 5  (SG)     All
      6 (DSR) <-> 4 (DTR)     All
      7 (RTS) <-> 6 (DSR) Dumb Mouse, to PIN 1 (DCD) for UniProg
      8 (CTS) <-> 7 (RTS)     All

Would this be required for an external modem too ?

Thanks
Shahed.
