Time events

Hi,

I would like to be able to set a timer and have it expire some time later
and post an event.
I have looked through the Palm SDK and have not found any functions that
perform this. 
Is there a way to do this?
Do I have to use the Alarm features?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
