Dear Palm Developers,
This is my weekly "state-of-the-developer-forums" email.
There are two important upcoming changes to the developer forums.
1) All mail is currently sent out under the 3com.com domain instead of the
palm.com domain. We will make a DNS change sometime within the next couple of
weeks so that palm.com is the definitive developer forum's server domain.
The developer forums will undergo another domain change in a few months. This
new domain will be a much more permanent home for the forums.
Since these changes impact filters you may have set in your mail program, I've
added an "X-" header to all developer forums email. The new header is
"X-Palm-Dev-Forum" and contains the name of the developer forum minus the server
host and domain. As an example, if you receive mail from the emulator developer
forum, the headers will include the following line:
X-Palm-Dev-Forum: emulator-forum
This new header will stay around for the life of the lists, so you can reliably
filter based on it regardless of domain changes.
2) There will be a major change to the newsgroups on Thursday (2/3/00) morning.
Starting Thursday morning, you'll need to start logging into ls.palm.com to view
and post messages via a newsgroup reader. Most readers either support adding
login information per account or prompt for login information when you view a
particular newsgroup.
If you have unsubscribed from the developer forums, you'll need to resubscribe
as a newsgroup subscriber. To do this, please visit
<http://oasis.palm.com/devzone/forums/subscribe.cfm> and select "Newsgroup"
under the "Subscription Type" picker. You'll also need to enter a password in
the "Password" field. This means that your subscription information will be
stored in our database, however you will receive no email from the server. I
apologize to all of you who have already unsubscribed and switched to newsgroup
reading.
If you are currently subscribed to the developer forums and would like to switch
to reading messages via a newsgroup reader, you'll need to set a password on
your subscription. To do this, please see the section titled "Setting/Changing
Your Password" under <http://oasis.palm.com/devzone/forums/help.cfm>.
Currently the newsgroups are run as a moderated forum to prevent spam. This
means that posts through the newsgroups can sometimes take a few hours to make
it to the list (depending on when a message is hand-accepted). By requiring
login information, we can prevent spam as well as remove the necessity for human
intervention with posts through the newsgroups.
Please let me know if you have any threading problems with your newsgroup
reader. I've heard of some problems and want to work with people to fix
whatever I can on our end.
