We've had this same argument with Palm and personally I think it's a poor 
"brute force" application of a rule that's fine *in general*. However, in 
this example (which we have in several of our apps as well), it certainly 
behooves you, whether or not the menu has a shortcut, to put up a dialog 
that says "You are about to delete all your data. Are you sure you want 
to do that?". Because actually, it's easier to select something by 
accident from the menu itself than by using a shortcut. All it takes is 
the slightest misccalibration of the screen (which happens over time or 
with temperature changes) and an attempt to tap on one menu item will 
actually select another and, if you don't have an intervening warning, 
there goes your data.

But those items STILL shouldn't have a shortcut (unless you want platinum 
certification :-) )
