Being a hobbyist, you're less likely to sign legally binding contracts in order to get additional benefits. In my experience, hobbyists may spend time and occasionally lots of money on their hobbies, but are rarely willing to enter legally binding contracts. By locking the latest development tools behind a license, you are putting a lid on impromptu hobbyist programming. I sincerely hope you have a really good reason to keep the 3.5 SDK behind a license, and none of this "our competitors may disassemble it" stuff. I'd assume that you want as many people as possible to write Palm programs; your actions are contrary to this. On a positive note, I'd like to tell you how much I appreciate the fact that you're distributing a pre-packaged, quite well-documented GCC for free, including the (outdated -- hint hint...) 3.0 SDK. I'm a seeding developer now and the license process certainly wasn't very difficult, I grant you that. Get the PDF, print it twice, sign it, snailmail it, wait for the reply. The whole process took perhaps five weeks, including postage Finland-USA-Finland.
