I don't know the product plans, but it'd be a mistake to assume that the
Palm III line won't move on with the times, and start using 3.5 or later.
For example, the Palm Vx devices are now shipping with 3.5, I believe.

Now is a great time :-) Few (if any) new devices will be using anything
less than 3.5.
