"Supported" means that Palm will attempt to make sure it continues to work
in future OS releases.
I don't think it's wise to count on always being able to move apps to
FLASH. Palm (and its licensees) think of the extra room in FLASH that is
not being used for the OS code as "theirs".
e.g. the OS 3.5 release is larger, so there's less space available. It's
entirely possible that on some devices (e.g. Palm VII) there will be no
space available.
It's also entirely possible that someone will create some other type of
extension that expects to find some additional space available in FLASH
above and beyond the normal ROM. If you've installed your own apps there,
it might break. For example, we may decide to create some kind of system
update (aka 'patch') that moves itself to ROM, so that hard-reset won't
trash the update. Who knows what will happen if your apps are in the space
when such a thing is installed??
Obviously we know about the FlashPro hack, and right now it actually works
pretty well most of the time so I don't really expect we'd ever have to do
anything to break this... I just write this so you understand the
consequences of what you're doing.
