The PalmRez post-linker, which is included with the 3.5 SDK, is the one
which does the job of converting the desktop-resident bitmaps into
PalmOS-style ones in a PRC. Since it doesn't work with R5, you won't be
able to use it to end up with color icons in the PRC, regardless of what
constructor you use.
So you either have to do the PICT/BMP to tAIB conversion yourself, by hand
(which is hard) or use a tool from someone else to do the same. For
example I think by combining Aaron Ardiri's tweaks to pilrc with Neil
Rhodes' tools that he posted about a month or two ago, you can get there
from here.
It might be easier to upgrade to r6 if possible :-)
