Yet more followup detail:
Tried a DmInsertionSort (that the one that succeeds with >16K records) on
32808 records (i.e., >32K). This fails immediately (well, very quickly)
upon entering DmInsertionSort with a "MemoryMgr.c, Line: 3237, Chunk not
locked" error (again, OS 3.5).
I don't intend to investigate this in further detail at the moment, but a
quick test makes it appear there is no OS sorting routine capable of
handling >32K (although in principle the Dm routines in general SHOULD
handle up to 64K records since they are indexed with UInt's).
P.S. - I didn't do any timing measurements but HotSync'ing this many
records to a IIIc, even with the same (old) HotSync manager on the
desktop (3.0.2) seems MUCH faster, which is of course a VGT (very good
thing). I was under the impression that new HotSync manager was needed
but now it appears that the new OS is the essence of the thing. Again,
just an impression, not an actual data point.
