Visor Serial connection

Any body the truth about this,  I've been told that the Visor is backward
compatible with RS232 using their USB port and an adaptor.   Also, any
application currently written using the Serial manager would work on the
Visor and its USB port.   I was just told that HandSpring is now saying this
is not true?  Anybody really know whats going on here?
