Greetings all: Now that I am back from Boston (and recovered from my America West travel experience) I am wrapping up my Palm VII diatribe. Since LZ77 support is not there yet in the Palm.net proxy server I am giving away a free simple compression shared library and a matching Windows DLL. I've put the shared library up on www.palmgear.com as freeware (under the name eScl (for eTree Simple Compression Library)). Your welcome to use the lib as you see fit. We tried it with some data from some test instrumentation (binary data and Bitmap images) and it works pretty well. I've asked another engineer to look over the Windows DLL and the URL referred to in the last part of the article. I'll hopefully be posting both tomorrow. Some of you might find the compression library useful even if you are not doing any type of communication. It is not the most aggressive compressor that I have ever done, but it will compress/decompress directly to a Database record. This can be handy when you are trying to manage large images, etc. on the relatively small PalmOS heap.
