On most PalmOS devices, the IrDA port and the cradle port share the 
same UART chip interface. So there really are not two ports, only one 
that can work in either mode. If you try to open the port a second 
time, you will get an error indicating that it is already open. The 
Network prefs panel does not support setting up two interfaces at the 
same time, but the net library interface theoretically allows it. I 
cannot guarantee that it would work even if you had a device with two 
separate ports, but it might.

The only device Palm has shipped with separate IrdA and cradle ports 
is the upgrade card that upgrades a palm professional to a PalmIII.
