I find that hardware shortcuts are really helpful in the apps I write too. However,
as a style comment, I always like to have a
dialog in my apps where the user can turn on or off the intercepts for each button
individually. I have found that some users like
it when you can use the h/w buttons w/ your app. while others get confused or upset
when it doesn't do what they expect. I find
this really true with the date book and address list the most.
