Normally when starting the application, you don't need to bother restoring
the state of a lookup field. Address book doesn't. What you typically
restore is which form is being shown and which record or records are being
shown on that form. You might also restore a selection in a list or table.
The actual content of the records is stored in a database, but the
information about which form is being shown, which record or records are
being shown, and which record is selected would be stored in the
preferences.
