Visual Cafe seems to have gone into hibernation and then been sold. Here's
the p/r from last year (the new company is called WebGain I believe):

BEA and Warburg, Pincus Form New Company Chartered with Bringing E-Commerce
Software to Market Faster

New Company Announces Plans to Acquire Symantecs VisualCaf Product Line

SAN JOSE, Calif. December 13, 1999 BEA Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: BEAS),
the E-Commerce Transactions Company, and Warburg, Pincus Ventures, the
investment firm which funded BEA, today announced that they have joined
forces to form an independent company to focus on developing "power tools"
that simplify and accelerate e-commerce software development. In its first
move towards that goal, the BEA/Warburg, Pincus company has signed a
definitive agreement to acquire the VisualCaf product line of Symantec
Corp.s (Nasdaq: SYMC) Internet Tools Business Unit. The agreement provides
for the BEA/Warburg, Pincus company to acquire the major assets of the
Internet Tools Business Unit, which includes the VisualCaf product line
the leading Java development environment for e-commerce applications.
Additionally, personnel of the Internet Tools Business Unit will join the
new company. The BEA/Warburg, Pincus company has agreed to fund the
purchase from Symantec through a one-time cash payment of $75 million. The
new company will be chartered with developing and bringing to market a
complete, open tool set for the development and deployment of Java
component-based applications, helping companies get e-commerce applications
to market faster and enabling them to better serve the e-generation. [gakk!]
