A windshield is *very* different from a Palm screen. If you have decided
to clean your Palm with Pledge, Windex, or any other household cleaner I
would recommend that you stop doing it right now.
Most household cleaners contain ammonia. Ammonia corrodes pretty much any
electrical parts on contact. I repeat, If you are using a regular
household cleanser to clean your Palm, or any electrical device for that
matter, STOP RIGHT NOW!!!
I hve had this happen to me. After cleaning the touchpad on my microwave
with windex for a few years, the touchpad just stopped working. It was
cheaper to buy a new oven than to replace the touchpad.
Here are your options for cleaning electronic equipment:
Use a damp (with water!) cloth and wipe it down. Contrary to what
cleanser companies will tell you, most smudges will come off with some
water and a little elbow grease. Unless you dropped your Palm in a vat of
epoxy or cement, this will probably do the trick. Here is also where
some tend to step in and think that they are such a power user that
*their* dirt is tougher than other people's dirt. It's not, get over it.
Pledge for Electronics: the makers of Pledge make a special
electronics cleaner. It comes in a metallic blue can. This is the only
type of general cleaner that is safe for your electronic equipment. It
works very well for anything else that water won't get off.
There are some other special Palm cleaners out there. All of
those special cleaners do not have ammonia in them. There's a reason for
that.
