Removing list items from listbox?

Ok, how in the world do you remove list items from a listbox in
constructor?  The best I've been able to do is clear out the text,
resulting in a bunch of empty lines in the listbox.  The last time I
needed to do this I gave up and created a new listbox from scratch!
