Why would Palm care what programming language you use? They discourage
programming techniques that bypass the published API and go directly to
the hardware, but most anybody can do that just as easily in C as in
assembler.

The Motorola documentation is a good place to start. There may be
sample code out there, too. For example, there are plans for hanging an
Analog Devices accelerometer chip onto some un-used parallel port pins,
and if I remember correctly there is some source code for accessing it;
find the Mulg web page and go from there.
