It is really easy. Just enter AT+CBST=71,0,1 into modem (phone) init
string.
You need a GSM 07.07 (AT commands capable) phone with IrDA IrCOMM
protocol support.

I have successful experience with several phones (Siemens S25 and S35i,
Nokia 7110 and 8850, Motorola Timeport 7089, ...).

But note that the setting on the other side (ISDN or GSM) has to be the
same - many ISDN data terminal adapters are not capable of V.110
(including some Cisco's BRI modules).
