Pick up a good book on basic C programming.  There is one called
"The C Programming Language" by Kernighan and Ritchie.  Find out
all about pointers.

1) realize that you've got some work ahead of you
2) learn basic C programming
3) (optional) learn C++ programming
4) read the friggin' docs or you won't even be able to ask coherent
questions
5) get your hands on some sample code
6) if you still have some problems after 1-5, then come ask some your
questions
