I generally don't like it. It was a product which is just a bit too early.
Biggest problems from my point of view:
OS 3.02, non flashable
Say goodbye to upgrades
OS 3.02 has a tiny dynamic heap. Forget about trying to keep netlib open while
doing memory intensive computations.
Screen is 192x160, and the phone reserves the top 32 pixels for it's own uses.
Say goodbye to many palm games which do direct screen writes
pixels on the screen are small. The image is jammed against the left side of
the device.
Price point; it is still $800. I can get a used laptop plus a cell phone for
that.
Physical size; it is too bulky (thankfully lightweight, however).
IMHO, the ideal device would be no bigger than a Palm VII. It would look just
like a Palm VII. It would have a 1/8" jack for my
handsfree earpiece/mic. (There is no reason to hold a cancer causing radio
transmitter next to your head.) There would be a
"phone" app which would probably look like the calculator, which would serve
the same function as the all familiar telephone
keypad. The address book would also have an extra option somewhere which would
automatically dial the number. The device speaker
would be louder than the current run of speakers, so when the thing rings you
can actually hear it.
