Brady is right... but I wish he wasn't.

I've conducted interviews and we once hired a guy with a Microsoft DBA cert.
along with some other ones.  He was a very nice guy, but we spent months
teaching him "hands on" experience.  (From ASP, HTML, Stored Procedures,
etc.)  He had no problem talking his way through the interview... but that
just goes to show that booksmarts don't equal real world experience.  I was
very shocked, and now I don't look at certifications at all.  I look at
experience, and if I see certifications, I become very suspicious.  (once
bitten, twice shy)

Just imagine the problems it caused when some employees who have been
working at the company got a hold of the salaries.  The new guy with the
certs., was getting paid more than they were, and they were spending all
their time getting him up to speed.  Pay based on more certs. is purely a
major hangup in today's IT industry when it comes to management setting
rates.  (especially in scenarios like this)
