Brady is right... but I wish he wasn't. I've conducted interviews and we once hired a guy with a Microsoft DBA cert. along with some other ones. He was a very nice guy, but we spent months teaching him "hands on" experience. (From ASP, HTML, Stored Procedures, etc.) He had no problem talking his way through the interview... but that just goes to show that booksmarts don't equal real world experience. I was very shocked, and now I don't look at certifications at all. I look at experience, and if I see certifications, I become very suspicious. (once bitten, twice shy)
Just imagine the problems it caused when some employees who have been working at the company got a hold of the salaries. The new guy with the certs., was getting paid more than they were, and they were spending all their time getting him up to speed. Pay based on more certs. is purely a major hangup in today's IT industry when it comes to management setting rates. (especially in scenarios like this) Just my 2 cents... -- Tim Astle -- For information on using the ACCESS Developer Forums, or to unsubscribe, please see http://www.access-company.com/developers/forums/
