That applies to alerts too? So I should outdo what Constructor did by default and renumber my alerts to make sure I don't extend beyond 10000? I currently have alerts from 1000 to 15000 by a 100 step.

Increment them by 10 or 5 so that later you can add additional alerts next to related ones.
Technically you can increment then in ones.
