No I wasn't being sarcastic.
You cannot connect another device(such as a modem) to a USB Palm. USB works
on a client-host system. The Palm would designed as the Client. (i.e. the
only thing that can connect to a Visor via the USB port is a host PC/Mac) A
USB->Serial adapter will not help. There is more than one 3rd party device
out there that will become nothing more than a paperweight should you guys
(Palm) follow Handsprings lead.
I like USB but moving every Palm device to it without considering us serial
hardware developers is going to kill our business. Expansion systems such
as spring boards, Compact Flash and memory stick don't work well for low
bandwidth serial hardware that requires external connections to other
devices.
Please, please, please consider retaining the serial port for legacy
products. (the Visor TTL serial port is a start but lacks the necessary
control lines). Don't put me out of business!
