You could use the 'new' serial manager. Use SerOpen for serPortIrPort and
then send/receive data directly. You generally will want to turn off the
receiver using SerControl when you transmit (otherwise everything will be
echoed back to you).
FWIW, you don't need to use the Exchange Manager for Irda. The IrLib is
pretty straightforward. Only slightly more complicated than the new serial
library and there are a number of decent samples floating around.

I just want to send an arbitrary amount of bytes out my Palm's IR port.
(Palm VII) -- I guess this would be an "IrDA Frame" C0 -> data -> C1. but
the Palm API for IR is too complex for what I need to do... I don't need
to set up an exchange or connection. What do I call to just send arbitrary
data out and not worry about data coming back in?
