There is very definitely a bug in Poser under ServicePack1 (Win2000) that
makes it completely impossible to download any file to Poser and yes, I have
tried this with 3.0a7, and YES, it downloads without a problem to a Palm
device - only POSER fails.
I have two systems with Win2000: my small laptop without SP1 works
flawlessly, while the one with SP1 fails 100% of the time and cannot be used
for debugging.
This is a SERIOUS PROBLEM because one cannot easily back out of SP1. I was
not able, for example, to re-insall Win2000 in an attempt to back out of it
and I have other reports from people on this too. The only suggestion I have
had is to reformat the hard drive and do a re-install (which, since I have
an upgrade version of Win2000, means loading Win98 first, then loading Win
2000 and the restoring my entire working environment of 35Gb which will
probably take the better part of a week.
I notice that when you run Palm OS Emulator under ZoneAlarm - ZoneAlarm pops
up a dialog asking if you want to allow Palm OS EMulator to connect to the
internet as a server (?!!?). Since there is a known change in SP1 that
conflicted with Zone Alarm' highest security setting, perhaps that has
something to do with the problem.
of course, the emulator has ALWAYS been flaky downloading - even when it was
working, it would fail at least 50% of the time, and often required an orgy
of restarting the IDE, the Emulator, but in this case it is no longer
flaky - it just fails completely.
Hopefully Metrowerks is going to fix this SOON!!!!
Cheers!
