If a record can get locked more than once and not unlocked, you could
conceivably hit the upper lock limit (15?) and cause a fatal error
for your users. Other than that, I can't think of any real problems
other than leaving your database in a sloppy state from an unknown
bug. Perhaps that bug is also causing other problems that are going
undetected.
