In my case, I don't currently worry about color, since I'm doing
this stuff for the Symbol SPT series units, so I've been just 
dropping the bitmap on top of a button.  Must be something with 
the bitmap families...like the occasional garbling of text on 
buttons, etc.  I don't think PrvFixupPointers is getting involved
in this, though...and it sounds like you're doing this right.  If
you disable all your code associated with it and put the button 
somewhere near the middle of the screen, does anything change?  Maybe
change the resource/object ids or something?  Just throwing out
ideas...
