Palm, Inc. has just launched a new service for developers: an online marketplace for buying and selling Palm OS(R) development information and expertise, called the Palm OS(R) Developer Exchange. Many developers have questions they need answered, and many other developers have those answers. Palm is partnering with Hot Dispatch, a leading online technology provider, to offer an online venue to bring them together for the benefit of all. Here's how it works: developers will indicate which technology areas they have experience with and can answer questions about when they register. When someone has a question, they post it in the appropriate area and offer a cash payment for the answer. The appropriate answer-providing developers are notified of the question by email, answers come in, and the requesting developer apportions the payment to the answer provider(s) as appropriate. The Requester always pays a 15% transaction fee to Hot Dispatch for managing the transaction. There's also a rating system for the Requesters and Providers to provide feedback about each other, serving as a reputation manager. To help you get started, Palm and Hot Dispatch will be offering a $25 credit upon registration to be used for requesting questions and/or transaction fees. Registration is free, and the questions can be set at any price the Requester chooses, including free. Up to five solutions can be offered so the Requester can choose the best one, and even divide the payment amongst several Providers if they all contributed. Past transactions are archived and browsable at no cost, to further inform the developer community and build the reputation of the answer Providers. The Palm OS Developer Exchange is designed to compliment the existing Palm mail and news forums by providing an additional venue for the exchange of Palm OS development information. Palm's goal in establishing this service is to provide developers with an additional source of quick, reliable development information, while offering a revenue opportunity for those providing solutions. Palm remains committed to the Palm OS developer community in supporting the existing Palm online forums. Our goal is to provide additional opportunities for our developer community to interact and exchange information. Please stay tuned for the launch of the Palm OS Developer Exchange shortly.
