To put this thread to rest... Yes, that's the reason that Palm gives a
lower price to non-US developers: they (typically) have to pay much more
for travel.
The admission cost for a conference like this, even if you're paying "full"
price, is still way lower than the actual cost to put on the event. It is
just a question of how much we (or the sponsors) are putting in for each
person. We always "lose" quite a lot of money on the event, but it is
certainly worth it to you and us in the big picture.
So we lowered the price for international travellers extra as an
encouragement to them to come... and yes someone from Mexico might have a
cheaper fare than someone from Miami, but that'd be a bit too hard to
handle logistically!
(And just a little aside: this year is probably going to be very full, and
might well sell out, so don't wait until the last minute to register. No
this isn't an advertisement I was told to make; this is just a word to the
wise that procrastinating this year might be a bad idea.)
And while I'm rambling, I'd be interested in what people think of tracks 2
and 5, since I'm in charge of those :-) I'm not giving all the talks
myself, of course, but a handful of them. I'd be very interested in
feedback if you've got some.
