As far as I can tell, ExgDBRead does preserve unique IDs, at least in Palm
OS 3.5. At least it's trying to; there may be a bug. I'm pretty sure HotSync
(or rather the Install and Backup conduits) also preserve unique IDs, but
they didn't always (at least on the Mac). I recommend using your own
explicit key instead of unique ID, particularly if you can keep your
database sorted by this key.
