Additional checks were added to the field code in 3.5. There are many
ways to trigger the "Invalid insertion point position" fatal alert,
especially since this is a generic message that it generated when any
of a number of checks fail.

There's a known situation where you can get this fatal alert if
you've got alert text with one or more trailing linefeeds. Check the
list archive for more information.
