hi!
ok... lets clear this matter up :)) i cannot believe how much out
of context this thing is getting *wow*.
topic: Software Protection: Palm Computing Platform
author: Aaron Ardiri
here are some key features i want to note:
a) its just a paper, no presentation @ palmsource
- it will be handed out to people at PalmSource tho, and
Palm will host it etc on their website (as well as myself)
b) the paper is to express all the information i have gathered over
the past twelve months specifically towards protection of software
on the Palm Computing Platform.
c) the paper will include:
- ideas
- code examples of the ideas implemented (C and asm sources)
- explanations of how they are beaten
- ideas to extend on the idea? (up to reader)
d) the paper may in fact, be used to encourage people NOT to protect
their software - actually, the message is that "dont fight a battle
you cannot win".. but, if you must (for reasons we can debate for
hours) .. here is how.
e) i will expose the "techniques" used in the Liberty application.
you will see the lengths i have gone to "protect" it.. and, you
will see the results of what has happened.. some good, some bad :)
this area will be 100% pure interest - i bet :)
my intent is to stop the "how do i protect my software" questions
coming up on the palm-dev-forum. people can *read* it in the paper,
and see all the short comings and sample code of how it is done.
now.. i am in the process of putting all the source code snippets
together and put an "understanding" explanation around them.. is
there anything else someone would like to see?
i dont want to take a particular side on OSS - payforplay etc etc.
as, i sleep with both sides. you can get source code from my website
and you can pay for my software (or, just fill in a survey and get
it free - if available). i also, fix problems people report.. so,
you dont need to see the source code for this purpose :)
now... can i please continue with the paper? i am running out of
time here :P and, i prefer to provide this information rather than
fight over its validity :)
cheers.
