Here's what you are missing: the "database name" and the "pdb file name on
disk" are two separate things.  The pdb (or prc or pqa) disk file name
exists only when the file sits on disk and is discarded when it is loaded.
In contrast, the (internal) database name, which is the only name Palm OS
knows about, is kept in the header info inside the file and doesn't change
when you rename the disk file.  When loading or installing files, the actual
disk file name is irrelevant.

To rename the database name in a pdb file, I recommend the par utility by
David Williams at http://www.djw.org.  It's wonderful for this sort of
thing.
