We've worked this out by experiment. Briefly - and from memory - it's a 
list of byte pairs, like this:

Each pair consists of a count & a byte value to be repeated that many times 
in the output stream. Hence, in a 1-bit mode, each pair represents an 
8-pixel chunk to be repeated 'count' times.

A count of 0 terminates the list.

Counts never go over 160, so presumably the compression code starts afresh 
for each line.

Obviously a real spec would be nice to find...
