Can you just use FldSetText()?

hello,
anyone know whether it is necessary to erase the field first before
redrawing it?
i.e. if I already display a field, then change the value of the text and
then redraw the field, should I do:
FldEraseField();
FldDrawField();
or can I just do:
FldDrawField();
